Sam George named Best MP for 2021

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Samuel Nartey George has been named the Overall Best MP for the year 2021.

This is according findings from a survey conducted by research and investigative organization, FAKS Investigative Services, whose team is made up of researchers, media practitioners and persons from the academia.

The MP has been in the period very active in the fight against the issue of LGBTQI+ which became topical in the country, eliciting reactions from persons from all walks of life.

The 7th and 8th Parliament member was the lead advocate among some seven other colleagues who presented a 38-page anti-lgbt bill before the House to criminalize the activities of the community.

The bill seeks to hold persons who engage the activities “liable on a summary conviction, to a fine of not less than seven hundred and fifty penalty units and not more than five thousand penalty units, or to a term of imprisonment of not less than three years and not more than five years or both.”

As a proponent of the anti-gay bill, Sam George took the fight beyond the boarders of the country when in an interview with a CNN journalist he defended the course, wining the admiration of many Ghanaians.

Meanwhile other colleague MPs of his have been named in other categories: MP for Efutu South Constituency, Alexander Kwamina Afeny- Markin won the Best Majority MP; Representative of North Tongu constituents, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, was the Best Minority MP while Best female MP was Linda Ohenewaa Akweley Ocloo of Shai-Osudoku Constituency.

According to FAKS Investigative Services, the survey was taken between the months of October and December 20121 and it was the 10th Edition since the organization started the project.
