Former Speaker for the 7th Parliament of Ghana, Prof. Michael Quaye has debunked assertions in the public domain that military persons were assigned to protect him while he was in office.

According to a January 17, 2022 statement, the former speaker said that any media reportage claiming he was given military protection is palpable falsehood.

He revealed in his statement that, “I was never offered military protection nor did I request for any…”

According to him, he was offered only three policemen to live with him and provide security at all material times.

Prof. Michael Quaye stated that, information could be verified easily by anyone who cared for the truth at the office of the Clerk to Parliament at any given time.

He further urged Ghanians to disregard any misleading reportage on the issue.

Not too long ago, Military persons assigned to offer protection to the current speaker of parliament, Alban Bagbin, were withdrawn.

The withdrawal, according to the Ministry of National Security, was to pave way for the regularisation of the said military officers.
