The Ghana Police Service has placed a GH¢20,000 bounty on the head of the leaders of the two rival youth groups that engaged in the violent clashes which occurred at Nima in Accra on Tuesday.

According to the police, the two gangs – Bombom group and Kumordzi group – are led by Ali Awudu and Ibrahim Husein, respectively.

The Police announced the bounty as part of attempts to retrieve information from the public which could lead to the arrest of the two gang leaders.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, the Director of Public Affairs, ACP Kwesi Ofori said that “any member of the public who offers credible information that leads to their arrest, will be given that amount. GHS20,000 has been placed on their head”.

He also mentioned that the service is putting in much effort to reduce gangsterism activities to make the country safe.

While calling on the public to collaborate with the police and help nip such acts of violence in the bud, ACP Kwesi Ofori opined that the two leaders are the brains behind Tuesday’s clash.

He added that both Bombom and Kumordzi have been under police radar for about two years for similar acts of violence.

ACP Ofori further said that pictures of the leaders of the two groups will be made available to the general public to facilitate investigations.

On Tuesday afternoon, a violent clash between two rival groups erupted leading to several persons getting injured.

In a video posted by the Ghana Police Service on Facebook, several machete-wielding men were seen attacking their opponents while gunshots were fired indiscriminately which kept residents in fear.

Seven suspects were earlier arrested but the police have picked up two more while searching for Bombom and Kumordzi.
