Bogoso explosion: Gov’t to build temporary housing units for Appiate community – Veep

The Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has said that the Government of Ghana through the State Housing Company will partner with the mining companies in the area to build a temporary housing facilities for the Appiate community.

The community which is near Bogoso in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region experienced massive destruction when a mining vehicle after an accident with a tricycle caught fire leading to massive explosion.

Scores were killed and injured in the explosion which has attracted international attention.

A day after the explosion, Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, led a government delegation to the community to access the extent of the damage and the rescue efforts ongoing in the community.

The Vice President addressing the media after touring the disaster zone promised that government in conjunction with the mining companies will be putting up new facilities for the community which suffered the devastatation.

“Government, on its part, is going to do everything to support the families and those who have been injured. We are also looking into how to make sure that all those who are injured are taken care of.”

“For the houses that have been destroyed, we are already beginning to think about how to rehabilitate and rebuild for the community. I have already spoken to the State Housing Corporation and in consultation with the mining companies here, we will quickly try to put in place facilities that will help those who have been displaced,” he assured.
