Some residents of Kotwi in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region have lynched a 25-year-old man for stabbing his friend to death.

The 25-year-old, who has only been identified as Sheriff, is believed to have engaged in a fight with 28-year-old friend Nana Boakye leading to the death of the latter.

Narrating the incident to the media, the Regional Police PRO, ASP Godwin Ahianyo, said that the deceased persons were very good friends who went to a drinking spot and a misunderstanding arose between the two.

Preliminary investigations indicate that “a fight ensued between the two and it is alleged that Nana Boakye was stabbed several times by Sheriff with a knife so he [Nana Boakye] died instantly. So after committing the crime he [Sheriff] took to his heels and some youth in the area pursued him to the Brofoyedru Lorry Station where they also allegedly lynched him”.

ASP Godwin Ahianyo also confirmed to the media that the Ashanti Regional Police Command has begun investigations into the death of the two young men at both Kotwi and Brofoyedru.

According to him, they earlier received a distress phone call at the Trede District Police Command that one, Nana Boakye, 28-years was lying dead on the on the streets of Kotwi and they proceeded to the scene and conveyed the body to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Subsequently, they again received a similar call that another young man, Sheriff, 25-years was also lying lifeless at Brofoyedru and they proceeded to convey the body to the Komfo Anokye Teaching morgue.
