Two suspected armed robbers have been lynched after they invaded the girls dormitory of Akro Secondary Technical School.

According to police report, “on the January 21, 2022, about 10:30pm Police received an information from the Headmaster of Akro Secondary Technical School to the effect that, two suspects have invaded the school’s girls dormitory”.

The report noted that the suspects were apprehended and subsequently beaten by the students.

A police patrol team led by G/Cpl Nsiah Douglas together with five officers immediately proceeded to the school scene and found the two suspects unconscious and were taken to St. Martins De Poress Hospital for treatment.

One of the suspects who gave his name to police as Sackitey Emmanuel Kpabitey was pronounced dead on arrival while the other suspect by name Odoi Solomon is in critical condition and has been admitted at the said hospital.

The deceased Sackitey Emmanuel was deposited at the mortuary of the same hospital awaiting autopsy.

Addressing the media, the District Police Commander for Odumase, Superintendent Doris Grant, stated that “I had information that there was a report from Akro that some two guys came to the school and they are thieves. My men responded and came here and saw that the men had been lynched so I gave directives that they should be taken to the hospital – St. Martin’s. They went but unfortunately one died”.

She continued that last night the students met some youths who were able to calm them down.

“My men were here throughout the night till this morning and this morning too the situation is calm and my men will still be here so that if there is anything they will be able to contain it”.

On his part, headmaster of the school, Charles Osu Kwaw, narrated that “a thief came in the night yesterday and we managed to apprehend him and while we were keeping him for police to come for him another came threatening the students that if they don’t release this one he will bring folks from town to come and beat them up”.

The thief’s threat infuriated the students and they beat him up but the teachers managed to rescue him.

“The police came in and we took him to the hospital and upon reaching there he was pronounced dead”.

The headteacher noted that “we didn’t know how he managed to get into the compound whether he jumped the wall or by what means but robbery cases are rampant in the school”.

“We had it very tough rescuing the thieves because the students were numbering over 500 and we are few”.
