The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched an investigation into Monday’s stampede at the Olembe Stadium in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

The incident happened on January 24, 2022 during a round of 16 game between Cameroon and Comoros, where the host won 2-1 to book their place into the quarter finals stage.

At least eight persons have been reported dead and many injured after dozens of football fans attempted to forcefully enter the Olembe stadium to watch the game.

The continents football governing body in a statement stated that it has commenced investigations to unravel the main cause of the incident.

”CAF is currently investigating the situation and trying to get more details on what transpired. ”We are in constant communication with [the] Cameroon government and the local organising committee” the statement reads.

The statement further said Caf president, Dr Patrice Motsepe ordered its General Secretary, Véron Mosengo-Omba, to visit the hospitalized victims in Yaoundé.

Also, CAF extend their condolences to families of the affected victims.
