The Accra Regional Police Command has announced the closure of some principal roads temporarily, ahead of the Extraordinary Summit of ECOWAS Heads of State on Thursday, February 3, 2022.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday, February 2, some principal roads in Accra, including the Jubilee Lounge (KIA), will not be opened to motorists before and during the summit.

However, the affected roads will be motorable again when the summit comes to an end.

The road closure comes as a result of the leaders of the ECOWAS sub-region meeting to deliberate the emerging political instability in Burkina Faso.

The Head of Public Affairs Unit of the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, DSP Juliana Obeng, who signed the statement listed the following roads to be closed:

Jubilee Lounge (KIA) to Liberation Road at Opeibea

Liberation Road from Airport traffic light through the Independence Avenue to National Theatre traffic light

Kempinski Hotel to National Theatre on the Independence Avenue through to Ako Adjei.

The police urged the public to take note of the above-mentioned arrangements and comply.

“Provision for the Motor Traffic Police officers to be at a vantage point to offer assistance to motorists has been made.”

“Motorists are requested to take note of these traffic arrangements and comply accordingly. Meanwhile, the command has made adequate provision for Motor Traffic Police Officers to be detailed at vantage points to offer the needed assistance to motorists”, said the police.

While regretting any inconvenience caused, the Police Service urged the public to cooperate with the Police to ensure effective traffic management during and after the period.
