Diana Hamilton wins VGMA Artiste of the Year

Award winning gospel artiste, Diana Hamilton, has charged managers of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) and the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), to make systems work.

This she noted, is the only way members in the music industry can enjoy what is due them.

The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Artiste of the year 2021, recalled that five years ago when GHAMRO gave her a paltry GH¢1,000 and some coins as royalty for her songs.

Speaking in an interview on TV3’s New Day, she said “there are laws and measures put in place as systems, can we make them work?”

According to her, when she releases a song, all she does is to hand it over to Cedi Baby, her record label, sit back and in every two weeks she gets a cheque through the mail.

She said her account gives her notifications and breakdowns of which church, radio station, club or TV station played her song and she expects the same in the Ghana music industry.

She also revealed that her song “Awurade yɛ” was put on YouTube as free download by an unknown person. When her manger contacted him to take it off because it was expensive to produce the song, the unknown person said she should stop complaining because he was giving her free promotion.
