Hundreds of members of the National Democratic Congress together with some concerned Ghanaians, on Thursday gathered at the Obra Spot at Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange to protest the E-levy.

Angel News Kwadwo Bafour reported that the numbers were not encouraging in the early hours of the day however, some key personalities such as George Opare Addo, Tetteh Sai, Ako Gunn, Eastern Regional women’s organizer were already on the ground.

He also reported that there was heavy police presence together with their armoured cars.

In an interaction with some citizens, Kwadwo Bafour noted that while some Ghanaians were resolute to protest the e-levy, others seemed to have lost confidence saying that government would still have their way despite any protests.

The protest is being organised under the auspices of the Youth Wing of the NDC with the support of other groups and citizens who are displeased with the introduction of the levy.

Earlier, the #FixTheCountry Movement rejected the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) offer to join them in the scheduled demonstration against the e-levy slated for today, February 10.

In response to the NDC’s invitation, #FixTheCountry Movement said “we think that the time has come for us to build a multi-sectoral and non-partisan coalition against the E-Levy.”

The Movement further encouraged all actors and political parties, including the NDC to continue to oppose the E-Levy vigorously, including by holding the front of the opposition with their representatives in Parliament.
