The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), has announced that Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko will battle it out for the 2022 President Cup.

The match will take place on Friday, March 4, 2022, at 6:00pm at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The President Cup match is usually played on July 1 each year to commemorate Ghana’s Republic Day celebrations which has had the sitting president in attendance. The game has, however, been moved to March 4, two days to Ghana’s 65th Independence Day celebrations.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will grace the occasion and do the ceremonial kick-off as well as presentation of medals to the teams after the game.

The two sides last met in the same competition in the 2019 edition where Asante Kotoko were crowned champions following a 2-1 win against their arch-rivals Hearts of Oak.

Kofi Kordzi scored first for the Phobians before Mohammed Alhassan’s own goal and a Naby Laye Keita penalty which saw the Porcupine Warriors lift the trophy at Baba Stadium.

Hearts are four times winners of the competition with Asante Kotoko also boasting six President Cup trophies.
