Two masons have perished after the fence wall of a building they were working on, collapsed on them at Kronkron-Moase, a community within the Nhyiaeso Constituency of the Ashanti Region.

The lifeless bodies of the two have been retrieved from underneath the collapsed wall.

A third victim, who is in a critical condition, is receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

A joint rescue team, made of the police and fire service personnel, were deployed to the scene and they managed to rescue one of the three who were trapped underneath.

Meanwhile, the contractor in charge of the building has since been picked up by the police as it launches a full-scale investigation into the incident.

A woman, whose husband was part of the masons, narrated that she heard a loud crash and rushed out to find out what had happened.

“The masons were numbering five including my husband. I saw my husband and the foreman’s small boy and asked about the whereabouts of the others. They responded that the wall collapsed on them. We screamed their names while searching through the rubble. When the rescue team came we were able to save one and retrieved the bodies of the deceased.”

One of the masons who escaped the incident told the news team that they least expected the wall would collapse.

According to him, they chose to work on that side after realizing the other end of the building had been weakened by rain.

One of the victim’s brother who also spoke with the media said he was informed of the incident via phone but he was yet to see the body at the mortuary.
