The Assin Fosu Divisional Police Commander has appealed to Government and benevolent organizations, to resource the Police with basic facilities and logistics, to enable them to discharge their core mandate of maintaining law and order effectively and efficiently.

According to Chief Superintendent Edith Gaanu, her officers despite being under resourced, have worked tirelessly to ensure that peace prevails in her jurisdiction.

“It is a fact that the Police is challenged in terms of resources. The rented police station where personnel were accommodated in this town was not very suitable in terms of requisite standards of Police facilities. However, the police had worked with the little we have all this while because we are committed to the service of mankind in the maintenance of law and order. This is our calling and the police service cannot turn its back on the people,” the Commander said.

The Chief Superintendent who assumed office a couple of weeks ago said though the police have not abandoned their responsibilities on grounds of limited resources, she is well informed of the chieftaincy disputes in the area that threatens security. Hence, the need to furnish the police with their basic needs spur them to give their best.

“As Assin Akropong and adjoining communities have need of the police service, it would have been unfortunate and lack of patriotic spirit if the police had abandoned their responsibilities on the grounds of unavailability of suitable facilitities and resources, but I am well informed of a number of chieftaincy matters in some communities under this Police division. There is therefore the need to resource the police to bring out their best” she appealed to government and stakeholders.

She made the call during the commissioning and handing over of an ultra-modern police station constructed by the Chief and People of Assin Akropong for the Ghana Police Service.

The NDC 2020 parliamentary candidate for Assin Central, Mr. Nurein Shaibu Migyimah who contributed to the building of facility admonished the youth to eschew partisan politics and divisions and strive for development.

He also assured the police of his readiness to support since they have demonstrated loyalty and responsibility.
