A freelance journalist, Sacut Amenga-Etego, has been rearrested by  National Security operatives after being released by a High Court.
The journalist was picked up at the Law Court complex on Friday, February 25, for filming court proceedings.
However, Angel News’ Ama Brako Ampofo reported that Mr. Amenga-Etego’s re-arrest is in connection with a pending case which is still being investigated.
His previous arrest last Friday was effected based on the orders of the Accra High Court.

According to Her Ladyship, Lydia Osei Marfo, who presided over the court, the journalist could be a security threat to the Criminal Court 5 and the Court Complex at large, if not the whole country.

She said that she asked a Court Warrant Officer to investigate an unusual noise outside while she was calling for a trial case.

A Detective Inspector Dometi Wisdom, from the National Security, latter reported that Mr. Amenga-Etego was spotted attempting to take a video of National Security operatives and some accused persons, who were standing trial, while they were leaving the Courtroom.

Sacut had denied taking pictures or videos when confronted, but Detective Inspector Dometi said he saw his phone on video mode yet to take a video.

Her Ladyship subsequently granted to the National Security operatives “leave to arrest Mr. Sacut and seize his phone and conduct any investigation as to the content on that phone in order to ascertain his motive and whether or not he has any intention to commit any crime.”
