Assin South: DCE charges opinion leaders to support fight against poor sanitation

The District Chief Executive for Assin South, in the Central Region, Felicia Amissah Ntrakwa, has admonished opinion leaders in the area to lead and support the fight against poor sanitation.

According to her, poor sanitation possesses as a threat to undermine the health of the people hence it deserves much attention to combat it.

She admitted that the fight must be a collective efforts, therefore, opinion leaders such as Chiefs and Assembly Members must show responsibility in the fight against filth in the area and across the country.

Madam Felicia Amissah Ntrakwa said these during a clean-up exercise organized by the Assembly at Nyankomase Ahenkro prior to Ghana’s 65th Independence Day Celebration on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at Cape Coast.

The DCE accepted that opinion leaders are intermediary between the community and the Assembly, therefore it will henceforth engaged them to make the exercise annually to ensure the district becomes one of the cleanest in the Central Region.

The Assembly Member of Nyankomase Ahenkro Electoral Area, David Danny Dadzie, commended the Assembly’s efforts to improve upon issues confronting sanitation in the area.

He then called-on the residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of waste since it had contributed to the increasing poor sanitation, environmental issues and other health-related problems in the country.

Mr. Dadzie therefore appealed to the Assembly to make containers and dustbins available at vantage points to make the fight against poor sanitation in the District yield positive outcome.

On his part, Chairman of the Assin South Local Council of Churches Rev. Moses A.Y. Gyamba, charged religious bodies to involved in spearheading the campaign against poor sanitation to ensure the environment in which they worship becomes conducive for congregants.

Adding that, churches can only prosper when its members are healthy because “Cleanliness is nearest to Godliness.”
