GPL: Afriyie Barnieh’s brace return Accra Hearts of Oak to winning ways

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh scored a brace as Accra Hearts of Oak recorded a 2-1 win over Obuasi AshantiGold SC on Match Day 21 of the Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports stadium on Sunday evening.

The U-20 AFCON winner opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a penalty to end his 7-match goal drought. This was after Isaac Mensah was brought down in the penalty area.

The Phobians lost control after scoring as the Miners took over and equalised with a header from Aminu Adams in the 25th minute.

A powerful drive from outside the penalty box by Daniel Afriyie Barnieh in the 61st minute ensured that the defending champions recorded a win over the miners.

The victory has taken Hearts of Oak to the 5th position on the league table with 32 points and 12 points behind leaders Kumasi Asante Kotoko who have a game in hand.

At the El Wak stadium, Hans Kwofie and Abdul Nasiru were on the score sheet as Legon Cities recorded a 2-1 victory over WAFA.

Godfred Kyei scored in Bibiani Gold Stars’ 1-0 win over Elmina Sharks at the DUN’s Park. Bechem United also recorded same score line at home when they met Accra Lions.

The win moves Bechem United to the second spot on same 37 points with Dormaa Aduana Stars cutting Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s lead to 7 points.

Real Tamale United were held to a 1-1 draw by Dormaa-based Aduana Stars at the Aliu Mahama stadium in Tamale.

At the Dawu Sports Stadium, Dreams FC humiliated Accra Great Olympics 5-2 in a 7 goal thriller.

On Saturday, Karela United and Medeama SC played to a 1-1 stalemate at the Aiyinase CAM Park in an all Western Regional derby.

The matchday 21 fixtures will be round up today, Monday when Eleven Wonders host leaders Kumasi Asante Kotoko at Techiman at 3:00pm.
