The Black Stars of Ghana were held by Nigeria to a goalless draw in the first leg of the 2022 Fifa World Cup final qualifying fixture on Friday night.

The fierce West African derby dubbed ‘Jollof derby’ ended 0-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

In front of a fully-packed stadium, the Black Stars made a good start to the game but the Super Eagles were solid to contain the hosts’ attacking threats.

The visiting goalkeeper Francis Uzoho was on two occasions forced to deny Ghanaian debutant Felix Afena Gyan from scoring.

Ghana’s goalkeeper, Jojo Wollacott, was called into action in the second half to deny goal-bound low drive from Simon Moses.

Both teams will now turn their attention on the return fixture in Abujaoon Tuesday March 29, to determine which who will qualify for the global showpiece in Qatar in November.
