The Member of Parliament for Madina Constituency, Francis-Xavier Sosu has cited Ghana’s qualification to the Qatar 2022 World Cup, as the right time to revive grassroots football in the country.

According to the Human Rights Activist, it is due time to “reinforces the need for sustainable sports investment” with football from the scratch.

Therefore he’s charging the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to take advantage of the occasion.

Thus, Mr. Sosu says, he hopes and expects the GFA and the MoY to use the upcoming Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup as an opportunity considering lessons learned from Ghana’s participation at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil to achieve that feat.

He said “The time is ripe for us as a country to use our qualification to the World Cup to revive grassroots football in Ghana and develop sustainable sporting infrastructure in the country.

To achieve this, the legal practitioner believes there should be a collective responsibility to support and take advantage of the current Black Stars technical team and make sure a comprehensive programme for sports development is put in place.

“We must also make conscious efforts to ensure needed investments in grassroots football and use sports as an avenue to empower Ghana’s Youth, build social cohesion and guarantee sustainable human and community development” Lawyer Sosu observed.

Considering the economic hardship and unemployment challenges, being faced in Ghana, he suggested well-structured programs using the sporting sector to achieve a better Ghana everyone had wished for.

“We must put in place the right structures to achieve sustainable sports funding, infrastructure and Personnel in our efforts to achieve the Ghana we want and truly restore our national pride as the Black Star of Africa” he advised.

Ghana qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be staged in Qatar later this year after beating Nigeria in two-legged affairs.

It becomes the nation’s fourth World Cup tournament after 2006, 2010 and 2014. However, Ghana has been handed a tricky draw in Group H, alongside Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.

They opened their campaign with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal and later Uruguay before South Korea.
