Tuba: Three children drown in abandoned sand pit
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Three children have drowned in an abandoned sand-winning pit at Mountain View, a suburb of Tuba, in the Greater Accra Region.

The kids allegedly drowned after two of the children in an attempt to rescue a colleague who had fallen into the pit while playing with a bicycle led to the trapping of all three, who were later discovered dead.

The deceased aged 12, 9 and 8 were respectively identified as Elisha Adu, Samuel Adjei Mensah aka Tawiah, and Isaac Amoah.

The police transported the remains of all three children to the Police Hospital in Accra, where they are awaiting autopsy.

They have also expressed concern about how sand-winning operations have impacted inhabitants of Mountain View in the Ga South Municipality.

They claimed that after many complaints to authorities, nothing was done until the sad tragedy occurred.

Angel News’ Opanyin Darko reported that families of the deceased children have gathered and are mourning their beloved.

Madam Victoria, the mother of the twin brothers Elisha Adu, and Samuel Adjei Mensah was in a state of shock about the tragedy.

“Someone told me that my children have fallen into the water but they couldn’t remove them. I was frightened but my brothers and sisters asked me to stay home while they follow up on the issue. When they left me it was not easy at all for me…”

An eyewitness who also spoke to Angel news said that “I dialed 191 but no one picked. I started screaming and later met a Pentecost pastor and I was later directed to report the incident to the police.”
