Seven persons have been reported dead after a boat overturned on the Lake Volta in the Kwahu North District of the Eastern Region.
The incident, according to police happened on the evening of Thursday, April 14, 2022.
Twenty passengers were onboard the boat while travelling on the Volta Lake from Dzemeni to Havorkope on the Dwarf Island before the incident occurred amidst a heavy storm.
The victims, five females and two males believed to be between the ages of 31 to 60 years, got drowned in the process.
The bodies of the deceased have since been deposited at the mortuary on the island while 13 others onboard the boat have been rescued.
Eastern Regional Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, who confirmed the incident to journalists in the region said investigations are underway to unravel the cause of the accident.
