Ghanaian-born English international, Eddie Nketiah, has disclosed that his doors are open for a possible nationality switch to play for Ghana despite representing England at the youth levels.

Nketiah among other players such as Callum Hudson-Odoi, Inaki Williams, Nico Williams Tariq Lamptey, Mohammed Salisu and many more have been on the radar of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to switch their allegiance to play for the Black Stars in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Meanwhile several attempts to get the players on board have proved futile with the Communication Director of the FA, Henry Asante Twum, indicating that the association will not beg for the services of any player to switch nationality in quest to play for the Black Stars.

However, in an exclusive interview with ‘The Beautiful Game Podcast’ monitored by the Angelonline.com.gh the 22-year-old Arsenal forward said he is open to play for either Ghana or England.

“My parents are both Ghanaian. It’s a possibility. I am open to both – playing for Ghana or England. Being from Ghana, you are obviously happy they have qualified for the World Cup. I know players like Thomas [Partey] so I am happy for them” Eddie Nketiah said.
He also underscored that his situation at his club level remains the number one priority at the moment before considering his future with the national team.
“My club situation is the priority first. At the moment my full focus is on my club [Arsenal] and making sure I sort out things for next season. Once that’s finished then I can sit down and have that discussion with my family. It’s open to both [countries] and I am not closing the door to anything.”
Asked whether Thomas Partey has been used as a means to convince him to play for Ghana, Eddie Nketiah responded affirmatively that “he [Partey] has to be fair.”
Having played 14 times for the London club in the ongoing 2021/22 EPL season under coach Mikel Arteta, his contract is set to expire this summer.
