The Assin South District National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has appealed to members of the assembly to allow them demolish weak buildings to forestall eventualities in the future.

The call came in wake of a recent heavy rainstorm that greeted Assin Ochiso in the Assin South District and left the community in ruins.

The rain which lasted for almost four hours, ripped off roofs of buildings and destroyed items ranging from televisions, fridges to mattresses, food among other tangibles.

No life was lost in the havoc, but two children sustained severe injures as a result of a falling object from the roof of their building, who have been rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Director for Assin South, Mr. Emmanuel Kwabena Brewu, with a team of NADMO officials who visited the area to ascertain the extent of the damage, noted that about 23 homes were destroyed in the disaster leaving about a 100 people displaced.

According to him, buildings in the community are decrepit, and as such, pose danger to the lives of the occupants.

“There are buildings in the area that have lasted 200 years others 150 so it for this reason we are appealing to the people to try as much as possible to refurbish the buildings and those that can not be refurbished, they allow us to demolish them so we don’t regret tomorrow,” he said in an interview with Angel News.
