The Black Satellites of Ghana have touched down safely in Niamey, Niger ahead of the 2022 WAFU U-20 Cup of Nations.
The team departed Accra on Tuesday, May 3, and arrived on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, for the tournament.
Ghanaian delegation heads into the tournament as defending champions having come from behind to beat Burkina Faso 2-1 in the 2020 edition in Benin.
They will compete with rivals Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Benin, Togo and host Niger for the coveted trophy.
The biennial tournament, which will be held in Niamey, from Saturday, May 7 to May 20, 2022, will also serve as the qualification for the 2023 edition of the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Coach Karim Zito and his side begin their campaign against the ‘Flying Eagles’ of Nigeria on May 8 before taking on the ‘Young Stallions’ of Burkina Faso on May 14 2022 with the winners and Runners up from the two Groups progressing to the semi-finals.
He has since named a 20-man squad including three goalkeepers, eight defenders, four midfielders and five forwards to defend the trophy they won in the last edition.
