A driver’s mate believed to be in his late twenties has died after a sprinter bus rammed into a light pole on the Kasoa Cape-Coast Road.

The accident occurred at about 12: 33pm on Thursday, May 5, 2022 around Gomoa Okyereko.

The sprinter bus with the Registration number GW 9105-20 was loaded with over 30 bags of Cassava from Mankesim area to Accra.

In an interview with Angel news’ reporter, Opanyin Darko, the Winneba Municipal Fire Service Commander D03 Kwesi Hughes indicated that, upon reaching the Gomoa Okyereko Junction a tyre got burst after which the car collided with a light pole leading to the death of his mate.

“We received a call that there has been an accident and we dispatched our men to the scene. It was a sprinter bus filled with cassava from Mankessim to Accra that had burst a tyre. The driver lost control and ran into a light pole.”

“My men told me that when they reached the scene, the head of the mate was cut [severally] and he was already dead.”

D03 Kwesi Hughes however revealed that the driver of the bus and the owner of the cassava survived and were rushed to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for treatment.

He also indicated that, preliminary investigations shows that the accident was caused by overloading.
