Head coach of the Ghana Black Satellites, Karim Zito has attributed his side’s defeat to Nigeria in the group opener of the WAFU B -U20 Championship in Niamey, Niger, to weather acclimatization.

Ghana who started their title defense against the Flying Eagles of Nigeria on Sunday, May 8, 2022, saw their hopes in limbo after a 2-0 loss.

Coach Karim Zito, who expressed disappointment during the post-match conference said the weather affected his side, especially in front of goals.

“The weather affected the game. The climate here is different from that of Ghana and that is why I commended Nigeria for coming early. The weather affected our performance but we will use Nigeria to prepare ourselves for our next game.”

The former Dreams FC trainer admitted the Nigerians were the better side on the day following their early adaptation to the Nigerien weather in Niamey.

“I think Nigeria took the opportunity of adapting so early. Our brothers came here early and we arrived late but we were beaten by a good side. We also had some clear chances but couldn’t score. I’m not downhearted. We have another game and we will do our best to win,” Coach Karim Zito said.

Ghana will now face the ‘Young Stallions’ of Burkina Faso in their last group game on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the Stade de General-Seyni Kountche.
