The Office of the Special Prosecutor has charged the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), Adjenim Boateng Adjei for “using public office for-profit”.

He has also been charged with eight and nine counts of “directly and indirectly” influencing a procurement process for personal gain.

In a similar development, Francis Kwaku Arhin, the brother-in-law of Adjenim Boateng Adjei, has also been charged with “one count of using public office for profit.”

A statement from the Office of the Special Prosecutor says the duo are to appear before the Accra High Court (Criminal Division) on 25 May 2022,

Adjenim Boateng Adjei is facing a charge for allegedly abusing his office for personal gain while serving as Public Procurement Authority (PPA) boss.

Sanctions

President Akufo-Addo in a letter dated Friday, October 30, 2022, terminated the appointment of Adjenim Boateng Adjei following the submission of a report to the President on Human Rights and Administration Justice (CHRAJ) on a conflict of interest investigations they initiated against the former.

Consequently, in February 2022, the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) disqualified the former CEO of the PPA from holding public office for the next 10 years.

In addition, Adjenim Boateng Adjei has been directed to declare his assets by the Public Office Holder (Declaration of Assets and Disqualification) Act, 1998 (Act 550) within three months and also refund to the state an amount of GHC5,697,530.00 within six months.

This declaration by CHRAJ follows fresh findings into alleged corruption and conflict of interest in the matter between the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) and Boateng Adjei.

The GII petitioned CHRAJ in September 2019 to investigate if the PPA boss and other board members of the PPA acted criminally in setting up a company, Talent Discovery Ltd, which allegedly sold government contracts.
