A key contender in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairmanship race in the Ashanti Region, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, has vowed that the elections will not hold in his region.

The party has scheduled to hold its Regional Annual Delegates Conference from May 27 to May 29, 2022.

At the conference, officers would be elected to fill various positions at the regional level across the country.

Mr Odeneho who is a former party chairman for Afigya Kwabre South Constituency said, the process will not take place because the aspirants have not been provided with an election album.

“You can’t contest in an election and not know the people who are going to vote,” he said, adding “we [aspirants] need an official document which will prove that these are the names of the people who are going to vote.”

He argued that the album–which they have not taken receipt of–is the document that certifies that an individual is eligible to vote, the absence of which issues may arise.

“You are not provided with the document, when you go there to vote and your name is not in the album what do we do?” he quizzed.

“So I am certain that once we haven’t received the album there is no way the election will hold.”

Meanwhile, the party held a meeting where issues on the election and other matters we expected to be resolved ahead of the polls.

However, according to the Chairman hopeful who was speaking on Angel FM’s Anopa Bofoↄ morning show on the eve of the conference, the issue was not resolved.

“I served notice to the Regional Elections Committee; I sent copies to the national headquarters as well. Dan Botwe’s committee has also been served copies, but till date, I haven’t taken receipt of anything” he claimed.

Mr Odeneho alleged that all party members in the region are desirous of change because apparently, the NPP in the Ashanti Region has lost its glory.

“Everyone here in the town is calling for change and there is no way anybody can impede that because the glory of the party in the region has been lost. The unity in the party has dwindled.”
