The chiefs and elders of Awutu Traditional Council have placed a ban on drumming and noisemaking starting June 7 to June 30, following this year’s Awutu Awubia Festival Celebration.

All residents staying in communities under the Awutu Traditional Council are expected to observe the ban in accordance with the traditions of the land.

According to the traditional rulers, the ban affects all programs including weddings, funerals and parties that generate noise.

Religious activities such as clapping of hands, the use of loud speakers and other church instruments must be avoided.

Communities such as Odupong Ofaakor, Kasoa, Awutu Bontrase, Awutu Beraku, Bawjiase, Ayensuako, Ofadaa, Ofaso, Ahentia, and all communities under Awutu must abide by the no-noise policy.

The Adontenhene of the Awutu Traditional Council, Nai Ncharkey Okai(VII) mentioned to Angel news’ Opanyin Darko that, there will be a joint task force from both the ‘Asafo’ company and the police and whoever goes contrary to such protocols would be apprehended, especially the churches.

The Nifahene of the Awutu Traditional Council and Planning Committee Chairman of the Awutu Awubia Festival, Nai Pobi Abundam (VII), addressing the press on behalf of the Traditional Council entreated all and sundry to comply or risk being punished when arrested by the task force.

Nai Pobi said that “everybody staying or working in the township of Awutu should know that when we plant the maize we don’t make noise, even at weddings, we don’t fight, we don’t do funerals among a host of things.”

“Anyone who violates that rule would be summoned before the traditional council by the asafo and would be punished accordingly”
