A notorious fraudster is currently in the grips of the Esiama Divisional Police Command after being arrested over his fraudulent acts.

The suspect, Samuel Sarpong, is said to have engaged in fraudulent activities on Facebook under the pretext of offering job seekers opportunities at his firm.

According to the Police, the suspect advertised the nonexistent jobs bearing the account names Lawyer King and Esther Afia Abankwa on the social media platform.

These many unemployed who sought jobs desperately have fallen victim to, paying huge sums of money to the suspect.

Recounting circumstances that led to the arrest of Samuel Sarpong, the police said, the ’employer’ now suspect had deceived a 23-year-old high school dropout that he would assist her to continue her education by getting an opportunity to work in a company steered by the suspect.

The victim in question then traveled from the Eastern Region, Nkawkaw to be precise, to the Western Region, only to realise she was duped.

Samuel Sarpong disguised himself as a taxi driver and managed to acquire the lady’s mobile money pin code with which he withdrew an amount of GH¢1000 from her account on the night she arrived in the town.

He then absconded with the said sum of money and a handbag belonging to the victim which contains her valuables.

“Luck eluded the suspect this time around after he lured the lady from Nkawkaw to the District on Sunday, June 5. Many ladies in search of jobs mostly fall victim to him,” Godheart Hlordji, the Esiama Divisional Police Commander stated.

The Police commander noted further that it took the intervention of a resident to rescue the victim in the night. He also said the suspect is known for luring his victims to unknown places and defrauding them.

During interrogations, ASP Darko indicated, the suspect confirmed his involvement in such acts and also confirmed his status as an ex-convict.

Meanwhile, the suspect’s girlfriend who is pregnant has been kept in police custody while assisting in the investigations.

ASP Darko used the opportunity to advise the youth, especially females to stay away from seeking job opportunities on social media and rather use a legitimate means to avoid falling victim to such trickeries.
