Akim Oda-based Division One club, Kotoku Royals left no stone unturned to book a historic Ghana Premier League promotion after a goalless draw against Tema Youth at the Tema Stadium.

The highly tensed match witnessed the full-time ending 0-0 after both teams failed to utilize the goal-scoring opportunities they created on the matchday.

The draw meant the ‘Royals’ secured the only qualification spot in zone three National Division One League and the first in the clubs’ history.

It also helped them finish on top of the zone with 63 points, just a point ahead of Liberty Professionals who finished on 62 points.

The Eastern Region has since been hailing Kotoku Royal’s remarkable and historic feat for making it possible from a zone that housed former GPL campaigners Tema Youth, Inter Allies, Liberty Professionals, and Kpando Hearts of Lion.

The pride of ‘Akim Kotoku’ now gives the Eastern Region a boost to enjoy Premier League football after several years following the demotion of Okwahu United, Suhum Maxbees, and Dawu Youngsters among other clubs.

The Akim Oda Member of Parliament, Alexander Akwasi Aquah who played an instrumental role in the team’s success organised 20 buses which transported supporters on a free basis to rally behind the team on the all-important final matchday.

Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong and other respected dignitaries were also present at the Tema stadium to cheer the team.
