A motorist believed to be a staff of the Ghana Revenue Authority of the Birim Central Municipal has died after his vehicle veered off the road into a nearby river on the Akyem Ofoase – Ayirebi road in the Akyemansa District of the Eastern Region.

The official met his untimely death after the vehicle with the registration number GW 9000-W veered off its lane and landed in the Boti River, drowning him in the process.

According to the eyewitness, the deceased was heading towards Akim Oda.

Residents who narrated the incident to Peace FM’s Kwabena Ofori indicated that they noticed the vehicle taking a sharp turn before it veered off and plunged into the river.

The onlookers said they feared for their lives and therefore failed to swim to rescue the victim.

However, it took the intervention of residents of a nearby town, Oda Nkwanta to finally retrieve the deceased’s body from his vehicle in the river.

The body has been deposited at the Akim Oda Government Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
