Ghanaian comedian Derrick Kwabena Bonney widely known as DKB and the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Frank Annoh-Dompreh have clashed on social media following the latter’s defence of the government’s decision to seek a bailout program at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The Majority Chief Whip in a post on his official Twitter account justified the government’s decision to find solace at the IMF where he cited a news publication by CNN on the mass number of countries also seeking an IMF bailout.

“Half of the world is asking for assistance from the IMF, this is not peculiar to just Ghana. Interesting read,” the tweet captioned.

The post drew a lot of attention with reactions on his handle which got the Comedian, DKB to respond. He wondered why Frank Annoh-Dompreh will use the economic challenges of other countries as justification for Ghana.

According to him, the former’s comparison amounts to two batches of students who had failed their exams with the same score but after years one tried to prove their worth by the same score.

“Daddy I know I failed the exams with my 36% marks but 2 years ago many students failed with the same 36%,” DKB said.

Mr Annoh-Dompreh who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, bit back at the comedian describing his defence as intolerant.

“You are unfairly discounting the variables today & overly simplifying the matter at hand, unfortunate,” the MP fired back.

The comedian was quick and reiterated that the current situation he referred to was much pleasing to accept with regards to the expenditure.

“It’s only simple matters that are simplified. The variables today are very favorable to assent expedient development, it’s been two years for God’s sake.

“Even Malaysia that was par with Ghana in 1957 has mopped up, recovered and increased per capita without IMF,” DKB fires back.

In response, the MP said in his view, he sees the comedian walking alone at the juncture and thus “wishing” him “well.”

DKB opined that Ghanaians have been walking alone with God sustaining them since time memorial therefore he [Frank Annoh-Dompreh] can connive with his ruling government to increase the percentage of the E-Levy deduction from 1.5% to 500% because they are careless.

However, he was quick to add that God will still sustain the nation and its citizens in the midst of the increment.

“The whole Ghana and it’s citizens have been walking alone all this while, and guess who kept us going #GodDid! So you can finish all our monies, increase E levy to 500%, shoot CIT to 70%, increased import duties by 50 folds. Do you know who’ll still be with us? God not you,” he stated.
