Kibi Circuit Court remands truck driver whose carelessness led to Bibiani MCE’s death

Suspected driver remanded for allegedly crashing into the vehicle of late Bibiani MCE and driver

A Circuit Court in Kibi, a community in the Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly has remanded the driver of the Man Diesel articulated truck that crashed into the vehicle carrying the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai MCE and his driver.

The victims of the crash, Alfred Amoah and his driver Samuel Gyasi, were confirmed dead upon arrival at the Kibi Government Hospital, after being involved in the ghastly accident on the Accra-Kumasi highway.

The accident, according to a police report occurred on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at about 5:15 pm.

The accused driver, aged 32 whose identity is unknown, has been charged with careless and inconsiderate driving contrary to Section 3 of the Road Traffic Act 2004 (683) as amended by the Act 2008 Act 761.

The other charge he has been slapped with is negligently causing harm contrary to Section 72 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960, Act 29.

The suspect was put before the Kibi Circuit Court following his arrest after police mounted a search on him.

The circuit court refusing to take his plea, the Prosecutor, Detective Inspector Kamal Salifu Gumah, prayed the court to remand him into police custody.

The court presided over by His Honour Peter Oppong-Boahen granted the same and the suspect was remanded into prison custody to make way for investigations to continue.

The Prosecutor, Kamal Salifu Gumah, stated that the case docket would be forwarded to the Attorney General’s office in the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua after investigations are completed for study and advice.

The case has however been adjourned to Wednesday, July 20, 2022.

Meanwhile, Police preliminary investigations have it that the 32-year-old driver of the articulated truck with registration number AS 4229 X was speeding and decided to suddenly apply brakes after seeing vehicles ahead of him slowing down.

On board with his mate, their vehicle veered off its lane into the vehicle belonging to the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai MCE, resulting in his death and that of his driver.
