A footballer believed to be in his 20s met his untimely death at Gomoa Anteadze on the Apam-Mankessim Highway after a Sprinter Benz Bus with registration number GW 9836-21 crushed him to death.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, July 17, 2022.

Reports indicate the incident occurred when the deceased was crossing the road to pick a ball that had crossed the highway during a friendly football match that was taking place on a pitch closer to the roadside.

The Assembly Member for the Gomoa Manso/Anteadze Electoral Area, Essien Brown who confirmed the news said the deceased hails from Gomoa Ngleshie and had come to the area to play football only to meet his sudden death.

He described the news as shocking indicating that this is the first time someone has been killed in that manner.

Mr Essien further urged the youth who are into football to be vigilant when playing on pitches closer to highways to avert any future occurrence.

“The youth must be careful because there is no way they can stop playing football. We will join the chief and the elders in this community to speak with them to prevent this from occurring again” the Assembly Member said.
