The Municipal Education Directorate of Abuakwa North in the Eastern Region has shut down the Akyem Anyinasin Methodist Junior High School in the area until notice over teacher insecurity concerns.

The decision was spearheaded by the Abuakwa North Municipal Director of Education, Miss Abena Gyamerah, on Thursday, July 28, 2022, and took effect today, Friday July 29, 2022.

It followed after some suspected gangs from the Anyinasin community forced a male teacher to allegedly kneel before some students he punished and made to apologize to them whiles on his way home.

This happened when the victim teacher on Monday, July 24, 2022, reportedly disciplined some students for misconduct. Some of the punished students proceeded to inform a supposed gang of the town folks.

The ‘gang’ reportedly confronted and attacked the teacher while returning home on the same day where he was allegedly compelled to kneel and apologize to the students.

The gang after committing the crime further issued a threat to other teaching staff who teach in the same school.

Madam Abena Gyamerah, the Municipal Director of Education of Abuakwa North thus embarked on visitation to the school on Thursday, July 28, 2022, to engage the management of the school and other opinion leaders of the community.

“The students misbehaved and the teachers tried to correct them but they went to inform the town folks so it was the town folks who threatened the teachers. So I instructed that the school be closed down today so that we sit on the issue,” she explained.

She noted that the matter “is still under investigation.”
