The Black Galaxies of Ghana have secured qualification to the next round of the Championship of African Nations Cup following a 4-0 aggregate win over Benin.

This was after Daniel Afriyie Barnieh’s only goal inspired the Ghanaian side to a 1-0 victory in the second leg staged in Benin, Saturday, July 30, 2022.

Ghana went into the second leg with a comfortable result having won the first leg in Ghana by 3-0 at Cape Coast.

Benin started the match brightly with some incursions to unsettle the Ghanaian side with an early goal but to no avail. The first half thus ended a goalless draw.

However, Afriyie Barnieh, the versatile attacker did get the goal he had been looking for eight minutes from full time to make it 1-0 for Ghana.

The victory means the Black Galaxies booked their qualification to the final stage of the qualifying round where they’ll come up against bitter rivals Nigeria.

The first leg of the game against Nigeria will take place between August 26-August 28, with the second leg coming off between September 2 – September 4, 2022.

The winner will win the slot in the tournament proper which is scheduled for January 2023 in Algeria.
