President Akufo-Addo has asked contractors of the Dome-Kitase road project to ensure that they complete the construction on time and within the budgeted US$35 allocated for it.

The 23-km road project is funded by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) and the Government of Ghana.

The contract was awarded on 22nd June 2022 and is scheduled to be completed on 14th July 2024.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, President Akufo-Addo expressed excitement over the rehabilitation of the Dome-Kitase road which is finally taking place during his presidency.

According to him the construction of the road has been the subject of promises made by various political parties and successive Governments over the years.

“I am happy that it is under the Presidency of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that the rehabilitation of the Dome to Kitase Road is finally being undertaken,” he said.

The President further urged the construction firm, M/S First Sky Construction Ltd, to ensure the completion of the project on time and within budget.

He again charged the Ministry of Roads and Highways to put in place the necessary traffic management measures to reduce any inconvenience to the public during the construction period.

Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah, in his remarks noted that adequate provision has been made by his ministry to compensate all persons who may be affected or displaced by the road project.

He added that his ministry is keen to keep an eye on the project to ensure that it is constructed to specification and within the contract duration of 24 months.

Project

The rehabilitation of the Dome-Kitase Road is being funded by the Government of Ghana and the Kuwaiti Fund. The works, estimated at US$35 million and scheduled to be completed within 24 months from today, are being undertaken by M/S First Sky Construction Ltd, one of the best road construction companies in the country.

The road connects the Accra-Kumasi road to the Accra-Aburi-Koforidua road and provides an alternate route to road users between Accra and Aburi. It also provides access to Ashesi University.

The project upon completion is expected to improve the capacity of the urban section with a one-way system, dualization, and junction improvements.

Other aspects of the project scope are total pavement rehabilitation, major drainage improvements along the entire stretch, and road safety features such as road markings and signs, street lights, traffic lights, and pedestrian walkways.
