Tema: GPHA commissions Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has commissioned the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex at Tema Manhean.

The commissioning by the authority was led by the Port Director, Mr Michael Luguje.

The project includes facilities such as a standard FIFA Astroturf pitch, spectators stand with its accompanying VIP stand and changing rooms.

Others are a multipurpose side court for volleyball and basketball, a table tennis court, a playing ground for kids and additional changing rooms.

According to Mr Luguje, the decision to construct the facility was taken in conjunction with the leadership of the Tema Traditional Council based on a “needs assessment premised on their desire to see to the fruition of this project for their youth and community”.

He continued that the facility will be beneficial to the community and will help to shape and empower the youths as far as raising responsible young people in the country is concerned.

The Director added that the authorities will ensure regular maintenance whilst keeping it clean.

Mr Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, the Minister of Transport whose ministry the GPHA falls, said the success of the project is as a result of the “high level of collaboration and cordial relationship and the friendship that has existed between the GPHA and good people of Tema Newtown”.

Again he said, the GPHA has contributed much in the renovation of educational facility, for some schools in Tema and also donated educational materials to schools across the country.

The minister entreated all other public agencies to learn from what the GPHA has done by reaching out to communities.

Also the spokesperson for the Tema Traditional Council, Nii Shipi expressed their gratitude to GPHA and said the project will ensure that the youths will have the platform to cultivate their interest in sporting activities.

He continued that, it will not only make the youths responsible but versatile, strong and healthy.

The Tema Mayor, Yohanne Ashitey who also graced the occasion, stressed the need to make Tema shine again of which sports development is no exception.

Mr Yohanne also said there is the need to hire maintenance team to double the maintenance culture.
