Addressing heads of the schools at a short handing over ceremony at the forecourt of the assembly, Mr Bodinga reiterated the assembly’s commitment of providing quality education in the municipality.

He also assured that the assembly would not shirk its responsibilities in order to ensure that students received quality education.

He indicated that the assembly was getting more desks to address the furniture-gap in schools.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,000 desks have already been distributed to schools including furniture for teachers.

“When I took over as the MCE. I went on a familiarization visit to assess the challenges of the municipality. Education was my first stop and I noticed that they lacked furniture. So I made it a point to address that issue and my first contact point was with the GETFund to assist me. And they heard my plea and here we are gradually addressing the desk challenges in the municipality,” the MCE said.

Mr Bodinga stated that the assembly would initiate an award scheme to award hardworking students from the municipality to motivate them and also provide competition among their peers.

Receiving the items, Municipal Education Director, Ms Gyamera thanked the MCE for delivering the desks which will go a long way in ensuring that students have the best time and sitting postures to enjoy classes.

She said the MCE has been of enormous help since assuming office. However his help has not been able to solve all the educational challenges in the municipality hence the need for stakeholders and philanthropists to come to the aid of depriving schools in the municipality.

With all the furniture challenges, the Director indicated that the schools in the municipality have been performing better in the Basic Education Certificate Examination and quiz competitions in the region and country at large.
