Akufo-Addo, Dr. Bawumia mourns with Dagbon over Mion-Lana’s death

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his Vice, Dr. Bawumia have commiserated with the people of Dagbon following the death of the Paramount Chief of Mion, His Royal Highness, Mion-Lana Mahamadu Abdulai.

The Chief passed on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at age 48 after a short illness at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. He left behind four wives and 12 children.

He was enskinned in the Dagbon Traditional Area of the Northern Region as a Paramount Chief in 2019.

The Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Naa Abukari Mahama II, on Thursday, August 18, 2022,  sent a delegation to the seat of the presidency at the Jubilee House to inform President Akufo-Addo of the death of the late Mion-Lana Abdulai Mahamadu, the Chief of Mion. 

Commiserating with the people of Dagbon, President Akufo-Addo said “it is a sad day for Dagbon, and I express my deep, sincere condolences to the Yaa-Na, the family of the late Mion Lana, and the people of Dagbon.

“Mion-Lana Abdulai Mahamadu was a young man, who had a good heart, and was a lover of his people. He was a respectful and obedient Chief to his Overlord, and who was determined to do his bit to advance the welfare of the people of Dagbon,” the president posted on Facebook.

He added that he hopes that when the funeral rites are concluded, all will co-operate to find a worthy successor to him as Mion Lana.

This President Akufo-Addo acknowledged doing so would .” be one of the best ways we can pay tribute and honour to his memory.”

On his part, the Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia described the news as sad adding that the Dagbon Kingdom has lost one of its charismatic chiefs in Mioŋ-Lana Alhaji Mahamadu Abdulai.

Upon hearing the news, Dr. Bawumia said he and the Chief of Staff, Madam Akosua Osei Opare visited the Korle Bu Hospital and paid their last respects to the late chief and commiserated with his immediate family.

“I send my condolences to the King, Chiefs and, people of Dagbon, to the immediate family of the late chief and the wider Abudu Family of Dagbon on this great loss. May Allah accept his soul and grant him paradise,” It contains in the Vice President’s condolence message.

Meanwhile, the Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen said the untimely passing away of Mion-Lana Mahamadu Abdulai has evokes a deep sense of sadness in all and sundry.

According to the Presidential hopeful, “Naa Abdulai III was a wise, courageous, and peace loving leader who worked tirelessly for the good of the people of Dagbon and the entire country.”
