Ellembelle: Family of slain 35-year-old man disappointed in NPP

Donkor Family reacts to NPP executives' comments following death of their beloved

The family of 35-year-old Andrew Donkor, who was shot dead by security personnel in the Ellembelle District have expressed their disappointment in the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

It follows the party’s constituency executives’ press conference where the leadership accused the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Mr Armah Kofi Buah, of politicizing the death of their beloved Andrews Donkor.

According to the NPP constituency executives it would have been more gratifying if the MP would secure land for the youth to undertake community mining than fight for compensation for the family since his death was hinged on the mining issue.

But reacting to same during a press conference at Teleku-Bokazo on behalf of the family, the elder brother of the deceased, Thomas Nyamekeh, disclaimed that “the Donkor family is not siding with any party despite many members subscribing to the major political parties”

He continued that the MP is only leading the bereaved family to get justice for their beloved brother’s death since “no NPP party member has paid a visit to the family to commiserate with them”.

The mother of the deceased, Madam Sabina Donkor, in an interview after the press conference, said Andrews is survived by a boy and a girl, therefore, all that she is calling for is for the government to see to it that Adamus and the military take care of the children till the two find their feet.

“The sustenance of the surviving wife and the children is now my burden, but I am not a working mother. That is why I am relying on the MP to fight for compensation for the family and for Adamus and the security officers to take care of the surviving family until they are independent,” said Sabina Donkor.

The head of the Donkor family Ernest Ansah who is an electoral area coordinator for NPP at Teleku-Bokazo also expressed his disappointment in his party for saying Armarh Kofi-Buah is politicizing the death of his nephew.

“I am disappointed because when the incident happened the doctor who attended to my brother called on the police but none of the officers came…At the time, the MP was not in town. It was two days after he came and was told to ensure that the case is looked at. When he heard it, he acted on it” said Ernest Ansah.

Circumstances leading to Andrews Donkor’s death

Mr Donkor Andrews was on April 1, 2022, shot dead by some security personnel at the premises of the Nkroful magistrate court in the Ellembelle District.

This was as a result of the massing up of some youth at the court premises and causing some disturbances among whom was the deceased.

It followed the prosecution of an NPP executive member’s defiant behaviour when he entered the mining pit of Adamus Resources leading to his arrest and prosecution.

However, the disturbances at the premises overwhelmed the security in the area resulting in the pulling of trigger to which Andrews fell victim.

He was rushed to Ekwie hospital in the community but was pronounced dead by the medical officer on duty.
