The police have begun a manhunt to arrest persons who attacked and destroyed some property at the Northern regional office of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Tamale.

Some party supporters on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, stormed the regional party branch with weapons and destroyed some properties.

They were demanding the removal of the acting regional chairman of the party Adolf Ali, who was nominated by the executives to act in the position. Adolf Ali was appointed following the demise of the regional chairman Tugu Naa Alhaji Ibrahim Mobil last week.

The group who stormed the part office amidst chanting for the chairman’s removal vandalised chairs, and other office equipment and fired several warning shots.

But in reaction to the incidents the police said “Whilst we assure the public that all the perpetrators will be brought to face justice, we urge everyone to choose peaceful means to resolve their differences rather than resorting to violence.”
