The Executive Secretary to the President Akufo-Addo, Nana Asante Bediatuo, is demanding a retraction of defamatory comments made against him by founder of United Progressive Party, Akwasi Addai Odike.

According to Mr. Bediatuo, Odike published false information about him and alleged that he [Bediatuo] brought people to Bosomefreho to engage in illegal mining – ‘galamsey’.

In a letter sighted by angelonline.com.gh, lawyers for Mr. Bediatuo said “we are instructed to inform you [Odike] that the said publication that you put in the public domain is absolutely false.”

“It is instructive to point out to you that you ought to have taken steps to verify the authenticity of the information before publishing same in the public domain.”

They added that the actions of Odike are “carefully calculated to malign, cause public disaffection, injure the reputation and reduce our client’s reputation in the eyes of right-thinking members of society.”

Their client, Bediatuo is therefore, asking Odike to retract as well as apologise for the defamatory and unfounded claims made by the UPP leader.

They warned that legal action would be taken against Odike if he fails to comply with the above directive.
