“Seven months with Mourinho changed my life, thank you” – Afena-Gyan bids AS Roma farewell

Black Stars teenage sensation Felix Afena Gyan, has bid an emotional farewell to Italian capital-based club AS Roma following his exit from the team to newly promoted Serie A side, Cremonese.

The 19-year-old attacker completed his move to Cremonese Monday, August 29, 2022, in a deal worth a €6 million fee plus €3 million add-ons.

In his farewell message to the Rome faithful via his social media handle, Afena-Gyan acknowledged the club, teammates, and most importantly, the head coach, Jose Mourinho.

In his statement, he singled out Portuguese manager Coach Jose Mourinho for transforming his life during his seven-month stay time with the Giallorossi club at the Stadio Olimpico.

“I’m grateful to AS Roma, the technical team, and staff for the precious opportunity and support I have enjoyed in the last one and half years,” part of the post read.

“My utmost love to the manager Jose Mourinho. The last seven months with you has totally changed my life. Thank you for believing in me,” Afena-Gyan posted on Twitter.

The youngster could not leave out his teammates and the supporters whom he admitted made his spell at Rome a “wonderful moments we shared together.”

“Thank you, Mr. Alberto De Rossi, for the role you’ve played in my growth. it was a huge honour to put on the Roma shirt,” Afena-Gyan expressed.

He was also delighted about the move to his new home as he is adamantly using the platform to continue his football development.

Felix Afena-Gyan signed for AS Roma’s U-18 in March 2021 from EurAfrica Academy and quickly rose through the ranks to the senior team where he won the trust of Jose Mourinho during his time in Rome, with the Portuguese Manager giving him his senior debut.

He made his professional debut on October 27, 2021, against Cagliari and went on to make 17 appearances for AS Roma in the 2021/2022 season scoring two goals.

He also featured three times helping Roma to win the maiden edition of the UEFA Europa Conference League.

The Ghanaian holds the record of being the first player born in 2003 to score in the Serie A following a brace he scored off the bench against Genoa on 21st November.
