The CAF Champions League preliminary round first leg encounter between Burkina Faso Champions RC Kadiogo and Ghanaian Champions Kumasi Asante Kotoko has been rescheduled.

The match which was initially scheduled to be played on Friday, September 9, 2022, at the Stade de Yamoussoukro in Cote d’Ivoire will now be played Monday, September 12 at Cotonou, Benin.

RC Kadiogo was supposed to have hosted the porcupine warriors at the Stade de Kadiogo in Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso but their venue failed to meet CAF’s requirement, hence the shift of venue to Cote de Ivoire.

However, the Ivorian Football Association told the home side RC Kadiogo that the stadium is undergoing maintenance work therefore the 20,000-capacity Stade de Yamoussoukro is unavailable.

As a result, RC Kadiogo communicated to CAF that they would want to play the game in Cotonou, Benin which the continent football governing body has approved it.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko has since issued a statement Thursday morning, September 8, 2022, and confirmed the change of venue and date for the game.

“Our CAF Champions League knockout stage game against RC Kadiogo has been rescheduled to be played in Cotonou (Benin) on Monday, September 12, 2022,” the statement confirmed.

As part of the preparation, the Porcupines said they will leave the shores of Ghana today to Benin ahead of the match.

The match will now be played at the General Mathieu Kerekou Friendship Stadium in Cotonou, Benin.

The winner of the two-legged ties will face Botswana’s Gaborone United or AS Vita Club in the second round of the preliminary rounds.
