Kwabre residents didn’t say they would vote against NPP if their roads are not fixed – NPP communicator defends

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), George Asante Krobea, has denied reports that people of Kwabre in the NPP’s stronghold – Ashanti Region – would vote out the party if their dilapidated roads are not fixed.

According to him, he is aware that roads within the Ashanti Region, including the Kwabre enclave are being constructed.

This comes after President Akufo-Addo reportedly said he is not scared of threats to vote against the NPP in the 2024 elections on account of bad roads within the area.

Speaking on Angel FM’s Anopa Bofo Morning Show, George Krobea Asante revealed that “there are many roads being constructed in Kwabre. If you move from Kanyase towards Mampongase, we are building 10km of roads. Again another 23km of road is being constructed towards the Faade area.”

Admitting that roads within the Kwabre area are in poor shape, Mr. Krobea said “Kwabre roads are bad so I won’t sit on air and paint a different picture when they give us lots of votes…”

He however, took a swipe at the NDC saying that the cry for roads exposes the lies of the NDC that they have built numerous roads.

George Asante Krobea also noted that the president’s statement about threats to vote against the NPP was taken out of context.

In a statement, a Deputy Communications Director of the ruling party, Ernest Owusu-Bempah said “the president has been misquoted. The president said it is his utmost responsibility to develop the nation and he will do that. If someone says he will vote against him it is the person’s right. It was clear the President was accepting responsibility.”

Mr. Owusu Bempah believes “the skewed publication is out of malice or mischief.”

Supporting the party’s stance, Mr. Asante Krobea stated that the president’s message was not understood because people did not decode the message properly.

“The president said two things which are key. He said people of Kwabre voted for him and he accepts responsibility to fix their roads. He added that if you choose to vote for NDC because of bad roads that doesn’t affect him…[because] the president is convinced that he will fix the roads”, he stated.
