Court grants GHc10,000 bail to man whose girlfriend was found dead in his room

The Assin Fosu District Court presided over by His Worship Abdul Majid Illiasu has granted bail to an accused whose girlfriend was found dead in his room at Rail Station in Assin Fosu.

The accused Kwabena Sika, 42, who pleaded guilty to the offense of hindrance of inquest was granted bail of GH¢10,000 with two sureties.

The case was, however, adjourned to November 10, 2022.

This follows a plead by the prosecution, Chief Inspector Gilbert Ayongo to the court to give the police ample time to complete the investigation.

Meanwhile, the family of the deceased, Jordan Aboagyewaa, pleaded the case be settled out of court on the premises of intensive financial challenges as such they are unable to afford the cost of the autopsy.

The court however declined the out-of-court settlement application filed by the deceased family.

The accused who hails from Hamile near Jirapa in the Lambussie Karni District of the Upper West Region has earlier told the court he is known in Assin Fosu as Kwabena Sika but today confessed Sam Tierna as his real name to the court.

BACKGROUND

The dead body of a 20-year-old lady, Aboagyewa Jordan was found in the room of her boyfriend at Assin Fosu railway station.

Aboagyewa was said to have visited her boyfriend, 42-year-old Kwabena Sika but was found dead the next day in his room.

Residents in the area were thrown into a state of shock, following the situation.

The uncle of the deceased, Kwaku Osei explained to Kwame Owusu Asante Shadrack, that “the deceased traveled from Brasiako in the Assin North District of the Central Region to lodge with the boyfriend in Assin Fosu but was found dead the next morning”.

The suspect, Kwabena Sika but later gave his real name as Sam Tierna “after realizing the unfortunate incident took to his heels to Essuehyia in the Ekumfi District of the Central Region, to seek help from his friend to escape arrest and subsequently seek refuge at his hometown, Hamile near Jirapa in the Upper West Region”.

“The friend however sneaked and reported the case to the police and Kwabena was subsequently arrested and handed over to the Assin Fosu Police command”.

Meanwhile, the case is still under police investigation in Assin Fosu.
