The Paramount Chief of the Ashanti Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will grace the Hogbetsotso festival to be held in the Anlo state, Volta region this weekend.

The Asantehene who is the Special Guest at the festival will be accompanied by a large delegation of chiefs and courtiers from the Ashanti kingdom.

The official invitation was extended to him earlier by the Awomefia of the Anlo State, Togbui Sri III, through a delegation of chiefs led by Togbui Tenze Dzokoto who delivered the same in line with tradition at the Manhyia Palace.

The gesture was aimed at deepening the bilateral relationship which has long existed between the Anlos and the Asantes.

The invitation is also a replication of that extended to Togbui Sri III who honoured the same at the Akwasidae festival in Kumasi in 2018.

At the Akwasidae the Asantene recounted how the two have co-existed and called for the sustenance of the relationship.

“My uncle, Otumfuo Osei Agyemang Prempeh II, had extraordinary challenge of managing the full integration of Asante into what is now called the united Republic of Ghana. He was always proud that statesman as he was able to draw a great deal from the Awoamefia’s great uncle Togbui Sri I, and from some of the eminent sons of the Anlo State,” Otumfuour Osei Tutu said.

“His [Otumfuo Osei Agyemang Prempeh II] personal physician was Dr R.E.G.Amroti, one of the finest physicians and scientists of his time and his lawyer was the renowned B.E.A. Tamakloe, who was to become the lawyer of Asanteman during the very difficult years before independence.”

To Otumfour Osei Tutu, the allocation of some positions in the kingdom to the Anlos and the allocation of the suburb Anloga in Kumasi attests to the fact that the two kingdoms have a good relationship.

On his part, Togbui Sri III was appreciative of the King’s efforts and the receptiveness of the Asantes towards Anlos in the Kingdom.
