Accra Hearts of Oak appoints Dong Bortey as youth team coach

Accra Hearts of Oak has appointed club legend Bernard Dada Dong Bortey as the team’s Under 14 youth development coach effective Wednesday, November 2, 2022.

His appointment forms part of the club’s restricting program and the renewed focus on youth development.

The Phobians announced this in an official club statement signed by its communications team on Wednesday November 2, 2022.

“As part of his responsibilities, Dong Bortey will assist coach Samuel Nii Noi at the Under 18 level while building the foundational modules to revamp the Under 14 team and they will work closely under the head coach of the senior team Slavko Matic”, part of the club’s statement reads.

The member of the Accra Hearts Oak’s ’64 Battalion’ squad currently holds GFA’s license D coaching certificate.

The one-time dead-ball specialist has previously coached lower-division clubs like Wa Yasin FC and Techiman Goldstars FC.

He is expected to bring on board his vast experience as a former footballer and his technical know-how to help revive the youth team of the Accra-based club.

Dong Bortey, as a footballer began his career with Ghapoha before later joining Accra Hearts of Oak in the 2000s.

He also had a stint with Al Wasl FC in Dubai, Great Olympics, and Swedish side Ånge IF.

Having hanged his boot from active football in 2020, the skillful winger ventured into coaching.
