Ghanaian actor cum farmer John Dumelo as part of his efforts to ensure the country does not become overdependent on food importation has launched an initiative dubbed “operation feed ourselves” programme.

According to the farmer, the initiative is targeted to produce more foodstuff for the country which is capable of reducing the rate of importation by 50% for the next six years.

The initiative launched in the Guan District is aimed at growing foodstuffs such as tomatoes, onions, rice and maize from the area including the Northern parts of the country.

Mr. Dumelo, launching the programme on Monday, November 7, 2022, indicated that he was pleased to have officially rolled out such initiative to boost the agriculture sector.

“I’m happy to launch the “operation feed ourselves” initiative this morning. The main focus of this initiative is to produce more foodstuff especially rice (from the Guan district and Northern parts of Ghana), tomatoes, onions and maize from other parts of the country,” he noted.

He used the medium to appeal to Ghanaians to value and consume the locally manufactured products.

“Another important aspect is to urge Ghanaians to add value to what we produce and consume Made-in-Ghana products. Hopefully this initiative will reduce our rice, tomatoes, onions imports by 50% in the next six years.
